As you know I am fighting a health battle. I needed answers. After some research I chose Dr. Kathryn Wood, MD at Wonderfully Made in Frisco, TX. Finally, an answer, Adrenal Disorder.

It's been a few days since I have written anything on healthyat60.com. This is primarily, because after visiting with my doctor about some extensive lab work, including a saliva test which monitored my cortisol over the course of a day, I was trying to deal with the question of "What Now?".

I was diagnosed with Adrenal Disorder Stage Three. What is Adrenal Disorder? "Adrenal disorders are the result of your glands making too much or not enough of certain hormones. Hormones produced by the adrenals include hydrocortisone (also called cortisol), adrenaline and aldosterone." In my case, my body is not making enough cortisol. Therefore, my energy levels, decrease drastically throughout the day. This explains why I sometimes feel like everything I do takes too much mental and physical effort.

In the last 6 months just the sheer thought of drying my hair would leave me feeling exhausted. I couldn't imagine standing, holding a hair dryer, and lifting my arms to get the coifed hair that I had enjoyed in days gone by. I wanted nice trellises of hair but had lost interest in trying. Last week prior to the diagnosis, I had showered and mentioned to Bobby that I would like to dry my hair, but I was just too tired...it was too much work. He knew I was serious and offered to dry my hair. I sat there and gave him a few instructions, together we successfully made it through the blow-drying process. I tell you this to give you a small idea of how this illness has been changing my life over a period of time and how it can affect the people around you.

What now? My doctor told me to avoid stress, sleep when I need to sleep, exercise but be gentle with myself. I have sleep apnea which can also contribute to the issue at hand, so I am making certain that I use my mouth device to obtain more restful sleep. Additionally, she also prescribed hormone treatment, because of my hormone deficiency.

Adrenal Disorder can affect your blood pressure, weight, and mental state, so by addressing this health issue, it may help me reduce my blood pressure, lose weight, and regain a better mental and physical quality of life.

P.S.

Are you suffering from an Adrenal Disorder? Share and tell me more about how you are handling the issue.
