Friday evening, we headed to The Keg. I had a plan, no bread. Little did I know that the devil was disguised as Cody, the bartender/server. What happened next…

I was implementing some of the BistroMd tips about eating in restaurants when we arrived at The Keg. I had planned my meal ahead of time and ordered a Wedge Salad with Ranch Dressing on the side. My protein was a grilled lobster tail. I had vowed “no bread” this meal. I was so proud of myself for this moment of willpower and then, the unthinkable happened: the devil had other plans.
Our server, Cody, gave us a treat, so to speak. Apparently, the restaurant had decided to bring the “free” homemade potato chips back to being a portion of the bar service. The word “free” is in quotes, because we all know there is no such thing as “free” potato chips.
There it was in front of us, the bread, the butter, and now the potato chips. It was just too much for a person who was just beginning to work their willpower muscle. Just eat one, right? Believe me I knew before I even took the first bite, that it would be more than one. What I didn’t know was that my husband, Bobby, would place two orders to-go. Ugh…yes I did eat some at home, too.
My takeaway from this experience is: I could beat myself up for this small set-back or I could learn to create a better mindset of planning for future temptations.
P.S.
Don’t dwell on the fall. Think about what you did right for yourself this week?
My improvement was, I didn’t eat the bread. Plus, I walked 20 minutes 4 times this week and did 30 minutes of gardening.
