As pre-teen girls, we begin to traverse the world of skincare. Hormones kick in, and your skin changes. You use OTC products or prescription medications to stabilize the reactions to the changes that are inescapable. People tell you, "You will grow out of it; it's just a stage." Unfortunately, there is no growing out of aging, no stopping time, and no way out of what will be a constant dilemma over the rest of your lifetime with the question, "What should a woman my age do for skincare?"

During 202 and the Covid-19 pandemic, we began donning face masks. The mask became fashion statements, but according to Healthline the mask contributed to acne and other skin flare ups. Women who hadn't dealt with acne in 40 years were dealing with this change to their skin. There was also constant washing and strong antiseptics used to fight the spread of the virus. Our skin couldn't help but be altered.
Personally, not going out due to the health risk and wearing mask changed not only my skin, but my mentality about skin care. Why put on makeup? Not putting on makeup made it easy to forgo other skincare routines. In fact, I could say that I really stopped looking at myself. That could be another reason for the weight gain over the past year.
With the weight gain and health issues, I became tired and less interested in my appearance. Luckily, God sent me something of a mixed blessing. My 15-year-old stepdaughter, Ruby moved back in with us full-time. She is a cute thing and very girly. She loves makeup, eyelashes, fingernails, self-tanning and most importantly to her, socializing. The mixed blessing is of course, she is fifteen and we are teaching her how to drive. With her in the house I began to feel more inclined to wear some makeup and even tried eyelash extensions. Eyelashes were a perfect go-to look with the mask. It was fun to feel kind of pretty, but due to my aging lashes, I felt, it was unhealthy to continue wearing the extensions.
Four months later my thirteen and ten-year-old stepdaughters moved in with us. They needed skincare products. I got wrapped up helping them to choose products for their skin types. I began looking at my skin. My skin needed just as much care as their young skin.
For the first time in my entire adult-life I have altered my skincare regime and began to invest in products and create a daily and weekly practice. I chose a few products based on research, and luckily the products have made my skin feel amazing and restored a glow I hadn't seen in quite some time. Pictured are some of the products I have been using for the past month. I have sensitive skin and Tula is filled with natural ingredients. The products do not leave my skin feeling dry or greasy, just fresh. Every person has different skin needs, so these products may not fit your needs, but I love what they are doing for my skin.
I also did some research on products that can be used for home chemical peels. Dermalogica Rapid Reveal Peel removes the dead layer of skin, shrinks my pores, tightens sags, and creates an additional boost to my glow. It has never been drying on my skin. I look forward to my weekly peel and love the fact that it requires no doctor visit and can be purchased easily at Ulta or other sources.
These products are not going to stop me from aging, but they may be slowing the process down a bit, and who doesn't want to improve their skin and feel better about themselves?
