Recently I was on an airplane and just prior to landing my neighboring seat guest began to talk to me. We discovered we had a lot in common. She was a former school librarian, and I was a former public library director, we were on similar health journeys, and we were both people of faith. She shared one of her sources of inspiration and now I would like to share it with you.

As we were ready to disembark from the plane, we shared our names. The woman I met is Faith and she lives in Midland, TX. A few months ago, she began the Keto Diet and was happy to declare her weight loss of 20 pounds. Her food weakness was sugar, and she was adamant about her need to stay away from this temptation. She told me she would pray for me to have a healing journey back to health and she shared a spiritual leadership organization by the name of Terradez Ministries. Faith…what could possibly be a more fitting name for this woman?
When I visited the Terradez Ministries website, I was inspired by the first of the writings I witnessed, How to Set Godly Goals. One of the reasons they mentioned as to why you should set goals, is because we must steward our time. How often have I heard people say to me "If you aren't too busy today...If you’re bored today... could you?" I think as women we are often natural caregivers and put others needs above our own. What happens is, if you are like me, you will think to yourself "I can do this tomorrow or later today" but then your energy runs out or the cycle begins again the next day. When you have three girls in the house there is always something someone needs or wants. It's not their fault, it is just human nature, and I am beginning to realize as an individual I need to guard my time by planning and then following the plan. We all have an "empire" to oversee in a manner that is healthy and beneficial for ourselves. That is a nod to my "Ruby", who is building her empire.
I have an appreciation for the ministries' suggestion of SMART goals.
S: specific,
M: measurable
A: achievable
R: relevant
T: timed
This is my SMART goal:
S: I want to be healthier by losing weight
M: I will lose 10 additional pounds
A: This is doable if I exercise and watch my diet
R: Losing weight could help reduce my blood pressure and I could enjoy our vacation more due to improved energy levels
T: If I stay on task, I could lose this weight by August 5th before going on vacation
So basically, the intrinsic reason for weight loss is for my health. The extrinsic reason is I want to enjoy my vacation. If you need an extrinsic reason to set your health goals take a look at these vacation dream locations on this website Tauck.
P.S.
Tell me more about your SMART goals and share some great inspiration.
