What's Your Scent? When You Realize Your Perfume Isn't Working for You 7/8/21

Babies smell different than teenagers, twenty-somethings smell different than forty-somethings, and so on. Our body odors change as our hormones, body chemicals, pheromones and other things morph with age. It's a natural process, so perfume you wore in your 20's, 30's, 40's, etc. probably won't make the test of, "Wow! You smell great! What are you wearing?” when you are in your sixties.

I have always loved wearing fragrances but have found it difficult to find the perfect scents throughout my life. The scents I remember wearing that stood out from others over the course of decades are Charlie, White Linen, JLo Glow, Gucci Bamboo and Chanel N° 5 to name a few. BTW, it sounds weird to say I have lived for decades, because it sounds so ancient, but saying you have lived for over a half a century sounds more dreadful.
The scent was never about the expense, it was about the compliment from a husband, family member, friend, and especially, a stranger in the supermarket. Knowing it wasn't about how I looked, but how pleasing my scent was to others, made me feel unique and yes, admired.
Last summer I began researching scents for mature women. Mature in age, not in spirit, we all should embrace the little girl inside of us and I am a little girl at heart. Anyway, I tried some new scents, but none of those perfumes were what I would call "keepers". The search continued and here are a few of the choices I made:
Jenifer Lopez, Promise- Due to my experience with JLo Glow I thought this scent might be a step in the right direction for a person of my age. The aroma is lovely when experiencing the scent directly from the bottle, but it was much too sweet and floral on my body. It did not have the depth of aroma and personality that my body chemistry needed. It may have lacked the woodsy, musk undertones that create a headiness of complexity and mystery.

Marc Jacobs, Perfect- The first time I was given the opportunity to experience the scent, I thought "beautiful". It's a lovely fragrance. However, it was heavy on the floral and sweet, which really doesn't mix well with my natural aroma. The bouquet gets buried and the scent is lost in a short period of time.

Versace, Dylan Turquoise-This scent overwhelmed me at first because I was not accustomed to wearing such a sensual fragrance. However, once it mixed with my natural scent, the powdery musk and wood tones had so much depth that it was downright sexy. Listed below are the details of the perfume listed on Ulta:
Vibrant and luminous, Versace Dylan Turquoise Pour Femme Eau de Toilette embodies tradition and innovation. Fragrance Family

As you can tell from the list of ingredients it is a complex fragrance filled with strong, natural aromas. This is my new favorite perfume not only because it seduced me, but it seduced others into saying those magic words, "Wow! You smell amazing!"
I feel appreciated and you should to, so go find your scent and share your experience. Additional Mature Perfume suggestions can be found at Sephora.
